Christians and Zodiac Signs

Should Christians represent zodiac signs? Let’s take a look at what the Bible teaches about zodiacs. I’m not a Libra or any other false title placed on me. Yes, I was born on October 14^th, but I was also born-again at age seven. Since God adopted me, this new identity gives me a new name and eternal address change.

I am a Bible Believing Christian—a child of God, a Christ-follower, and a permanent resident of the Kingdom of God.

If you are a brother or sister of mine, in Christ, you must know why it’s not cool to attach any false gods with your identity.

Zodiac Before Christ?

You belong to Christ Jesus. He gave His life to bring you into His church and His family. God purchased you with a price.

Too many of us are walking around asking people what their sign. When we learn of people’s birthdate, or when we share the same birth month there’s a connection. We get so excited when we connect with someone of the same sign because we can understand them.

Christians also rely on horoscopes to forecast their future and zodiac signs for their identity, personality traits, and what person/sign is best for them to date/marry.

Zodiac Signs in the Church

I joined a biblically sound church in Atlanta some years before moving to Dallas, TX. The pastor was traveling on this particular Sunday, and the guest speaker in the pulpit ushered in his agenda. He was not biblically sound, and he started talking about zodiac signs in the way the Bible warns us.

Misleading people is tragic because this is the kind of foolery that harms the flock.

I don’t care who you are, when I hear foolery in the pulpit that does not align with my discernment from studying the Word—I’m out—end of story!

Fast forward to my recent time in my Dallas church; I heard a couple of members discussing their astrological sign in the church building after a group class.

When I heard this, it wasn’t a judgment, but I understand that there must be more teaching on these kinds of topics within the body of Christ.

Let us look at this topic through discerning eyes. You must see why you’re not to dabble in astrology. Soulful, it’s time to stop asking people, “what’s your sign” as this is certainly not a mark of a mature believer.

My History with Astrology and the Zodiac of Libra

In my late twenties and early thirties, I used to read about signs. I knew it was wrong because I felt convicted every time I Google searched this stuff. This conviction didn’t allow me to read this junk for maybe more than ten minutes at a time. I justified my sneaky little secret by saying that it’s for entertainment purposes only.

Nonetheless, I used to find myself very intrigued by how accurate it seemed. But, let’s also remember how well your enemy knows a lot of things well, and he wants to take the place of God in your life.

Accuracy of Zodiacs

The more accurate the zodiac writing seemed, I wanted to learn more about myself, whom I dated, and my family members. I did this to understand them more, but this, my friend, is flat out in opposition to Christ!

Astrology, horoscopes, zodiac signs, and getting readings from physics are all against God and are of the kingdom of darkness.

Focusing on zodiacs is idol worship!

 

Jonah 2:8 NIV says, Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.

 

When you become a child of God, the old passed away, and you are a new creation filled with His Holy Spirit. It is only God who gives you your identity because He alone created you.

You must go to the Creator for information related to who you are, who you should date, marry, and understand others. God will tell you what He has planned for your life. He will reveal what career to operate in, where to plant your business, and what your life’s mission is. If you need the information and don’t seem to be hearing from God, you’ll need to be patient and continue building your relationship with God.

CONTEXT – BACKGROUND –  OVERVIEW

Wikipedia says astrology or astromancy, consists of several systems of divination based on the premise that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world.

Divination attempts to gain insight into a question or situation through an occultic standardized process or ritual. The occult is supernatural, mystical, or magical beliefs, practices, or phenomena.

Though some may deny it, the occult art of astrology has connections to other occultism, such as witchcraft, tarot card readings, and numerology.

In 1975, 192 scientists disavowed astrology. The books written about astrology crosses over to everything from Hindu to psychology.

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole—this should not be confused with astrology (which tries to predict human behaviors and patterns based on the constellations.

 

HISTORY OF ASTROLOGY

There are many forms of astrology, but we won’t get into that today.

The concise encyclopedia says astrology originated in Mesopotamia (c. 3rd millennium BC) and spread to India. While Western astrology is essentially a product of Greco-Roman culture, some of its more basic concepts originated in Babylonia.

Astrology entered Islamic culture as part of the Greek tradition and returned to European culture through Arabic learning. According to Greek tradition, the heavens are divided according to the 12 constellations of the zodiac. And the bright stars that rise at intervals cast a spiritual influence over human affairs.

YOU AND “YOUR” IDOL THE ZODIAC

Everyone’s familiar with zodiacs, but their origination has Babylonian roots. If we study the Bible, we know that Babylonians worshiped false gods.

Many Christians that celebrate their birthdays are proudly calling out these signs with a sense of pride, “I’m a Virgo, Leo, Scorpio, Capricorn, or Sagittarius, etc.”

People go back and forth with others defending why their zodiac sign is the best, and why they were born in the best month. Christians, standing tall on your zodiac belief, is not Biblical.

 

 In Deuteronomy 18:9-12 KJV it says, When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through  the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

 

Abomination

This passage and translation of scripture use the word abomination.  An abomination, which is bdelugma in greek, is defined as an accursed thing. In the dictionary, abomination is a thing that causes disgust or hatred.

God shared the passage of scripture when He bought Israel out of Egypt. And since we are His children, this warning hasn’t changed—He’s speaking to you and me.

In my research, I also noted that when you justify the characteristics of what astrologers call your zodiac sign, you are allowing the demons and familiar spirits to become more powerful in your life. The demonic power manipulates your emotions and soul.

Why? Because there is a fallen angel (demon) assigned to each of these signs, which are ruling gods.

For instance, Leo the Lion (see image above) is ruled by the Sun god, and Aries the Ram ruled by Mars, the god of war, etc.

Conclusion

So when we research the zodiac that coincides with our birthdate (the date God set aside for you to enter the world), the ability to relate to what it describes is a tool used to pique your interest and lure you in further.

Our curiosity and awe in how it describes us can lead to wanting to know more and more.

After all, demons know lots of things about us and those of our prior generations. They’ve been around for centuries, and they are real. That’s why when this info is sometimes head-on, it can get scary, and this is not a good thing.

As a Christian, if you choose to continue in this, know it’s an abomination, and you’re sinning against the will of God no matter how innocent it seems.
